about

This is a song in six movements that tells the story about the cycle of life for nearly twenty minutes. The truly fascinating thing about nature is that it's unforgiving and cruel, even to the creatures that spends their every day-life in it. Even when mankind is not active in it, mother nature is still unfair to the inhabitants. Predators lurking around every corner, seasonal weather affecting the survival instinct and creatures unlucky enough to starve to death.
This song follows the process of how a normal day in the wild can suddenly turn for the worse with a volcano erupting and slowly building itself up again.

In other words: "Nature doesn't care".

– Tone Blakesley, At The Edge of Prog

lyrics

II. Morning At The Peaks

High above the misty mountain peaks
The sunlight gently graces the ground below
Clouds disbanding clearing up the sky
Massive fields of crops and green will grow

Morning spirits watch it all unfold
Seeing wonders in simple things like bloom

Songbirds sing as the sky turns blue
The heat from the nearest star
is giving life and care for you

Flowers open up to a drifting world
Filled with badgers, boars and butterflies
The streams are howling on like a choir (Woah!)
A swirl of colours dancing right before your eyes

Joyful feelings flowing through the air
Setting course for the corners of your mind

When it seems like peace has settled in
A mystic force of darkness lurking within

III. The Ruthless Ways of Nature

The day goes on and grows into a grand adventure
Struggles interfering with the majesty and joy
The smallest is the hunted for the purpose of survival
Even bigger ones are facing trials of nature’s way itself

The battle for survival is a long and constant journey
With fatalities from hunters, plagues, disasters and starvation
Even so we’re raging on, challenging our instincts
Hoping for the best in unpredictable events

The danger’s everywhere, that’s the way it’s been
Dependant on a herd or facing it all alone
A hint of brightness are so few and far between
The biting freeze of winter lie so deep into the bone

A sea of molten lava rising through the earth
Tearing down it’s own path for an infernal nightmare

IV. Eruption

Rising through the earth and
(it’s) burning down the trees around
Open wounds (that) are showing
(there’s) anger deep within the core
Soaked in fire when the
grass is young and dragons roam
Death is near (us) for there is
Nowhere left to run and hide

V. Desolation

Miles of barren lands reaching out
The light is far behind the blackened sky
Withered roses, burned oaken wood
Ashes dancing in the wind

All I see are plains of grey
My skin is scorched and burned
Slowly healing, left with giant scars
The pain still remains

Desolation reaching far and wide
And will remain for days to come
The forests, lakes and flower beds
Are gone and for how long we cannot tell
For all I know it may be gone for good
But fate would lead it to another way

VI. Reborn From The Ashes

A seed was planted long ago
It rises through the broken ground
Rain drops falling on the drought
It’s filling the valleys up with a rhythmic sound

The stalk is small, but time will tell
When the flower has reached up and touched the sky
The sprouts are spread across the open plains
Creatures that once fled the land return and makes me smile

When I thought my time had reached an end
I was reborn from the ashes

When I thought my time had reached an end
I was reborn from the ashes
This story will be told again
